Fall protection systems

According to The Work at Height Regulations 2005, whatever the height, as soon as there is a risk of falling, employers must take the necessary measures to guarantee protection against fall. They have to make sure that any work at height that cannot be eliminated is properly planned, appropriately supervised and carried out safely. To do so, Telenco store offers reliable, professional grade fall arrest systems to keep workers at height safe.

Even if the HSE states that any work at height should be avoided, it is sometimes necessary for field engineers: for example, when they need to install or maintain equipment on a utility pole. In these cases, it is absolutely essential to only ask competent people to do the work, by using the right equipment.

Personal Fall Protection refers to systems such as lifelines, lanyards, deceleration device or anchor points, which can be used in both fall restraint and fall arrest. Regardless of how the system is used, it must be designed and rated to the Fall Arrest Standards.

But when do you need to use a fall arrest system over a fall restraint system?

Fall arrest systems should be the final measure of control you consider and should only be implemented where there are no other practical or viable alternatives. When working on a fragile surface, such as on old roof surfaces, on a telegraph pole or on a narrow ledge, fall arrest will likely your best option. As the aim of a fall restraint system is to prevent individuals from reaching high-risk areas before they have a chance of falling, you may consider choosing a fall arrest system when you need to work without restriction from going near areas where there is a fall risk, as it will provide you more freedom of movement.

Fall arrest systems must include, at least, a full body harness, suitable anchorages and lanyards with energy absorbers. As Fall arrest systems don’t stop completely, you need shock absorbers which are specially designed to dissipate the energy in case of a fall and thus, to reduce the impact force felt by the worker.

Our fall protection solutions have been selected to respect important criteria such as: being simple to use, providing the utmost comfort and being compliant with the regulations in force. When introducing a new item in our fall arrest systems catalogue, we pay a particular attention to ergonomics in order to meet the specific requirements of each type of intervention. Thus, our full body harnesses are carefully selected to respect the anatomical shape of field engineers in order to provide them with the optimal comfort throughout the entire intervention.

Please, do not forget all belts and harnesses shall be inspected frequently, before and after use, to ensure the utmost safety of field engineers. Visual inspection by competent professionals before each use is required.
